Nuggets open camp with emphasis on defense

DENVER (AP) - Denver Nuggets coach George Karl says the team will focus on defense this season after spending the past two years trying to develop an up-tempo offensive style.
He plans to change the team's culture with new, young, high-energy players and a renewed commitment from his veterans, including Carmelo Anthony.
Karl says he hopes Anthony will apply the lessons he learned from the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, which used a tenacious defense to win gold in Beijing.
Anthony says he knows that stiffening the defense will start with him, and he promises to do whatever it takes.
The Nuggets opened training camp Tuesday. The first preseason game is October 10 against Minnesota at Pepsi Center.
