The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy has become an elusive target for the Air Force football team.
The stats tell quite a story. Air Force has won the trophy outright 16 different times, six more than second place Navy. But the Midshipmen have beaten the Falcons five straight years and Navy has won the trophy all five of those years including a 31-20 win last year in Annapolis.
The Falcons seniors have never won the trophy which makes Saturday’s game with Navy very important.
Air Force Senior defensive end Ryan Kemp told News First sports reporter Jordan Mason, “It’s kind of embarrassing. I've never even seen the trophy, I don't know what it looks like, and that's unacceptable.
The first step to winning the trophy begins at 2:00 p.m. Saturday when Air Force hosts Navy at Falcon Stadium. If Air Force beats the Midshipmen a win over Army on November 1 would return the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to the Air Force Academy.
