One of the all-time greats of CC hockey will now be in the national spotlight on the golf course.
Monday, at the U.S. Senior Open sectional qualifier at the Colorado Golf club in Parker, Colorado College hockey’s second all-time leading scorer, Dave Delich, shot 74. That score was good for second place and one of the three automatic bids to the U.S. Senior Open later this summer at the Broadmoor.
Delich will play on his home course. He's been playing at the Broadmoor since 1975. He obviously played well enough to win, but didn't initially think that his score would be low enough for a bid.
“I thought 72 was in for sure,” said Delich. “I thought 73 would at least get me in a playoff for one of the spots or an alternate spot. I told [my caddie] Jim coming up 18, I thought 74 would get us to Dairy Queen early.”
