There is an increasing number of dogs in Colorado Springs diagnosed with kennel cough and canine influenza virus. The warning comes from the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Even though the two diseases are more prevalent in Colorado Springs, it’s wise for other pet owners to be aware.
The two diseases are highly contagious and often spread when dogs are in large groups. If you've recently left your dog at a kennel, or you've just gotten a new pet, veterinarians suggest keeping it away from other dogs until you're sure it has not picked up a bug. Veterinarian, Dr. Susan Bloss says “They take it to visit all their friends and they go to the dog park and unknowingly spread that virus.”
The suggested waiting period is a week. It takes that amount of time for symptoms to appear. The symptoms are a cough and sometimes nasal discharge. Both diseases need to be treated by your vet.
