High-Speed Rail Study Begins on I-70 and I-25 Corridors

A year-long collaborative study to determine whether inter-city, high-speed rail is technically, financially and economically feasible for Colorado’s Interstate 25 and Interstate 70 corridors is underway.
“Colorado is in need of a faster, safer, more efficient way to commute to and from work, conduct business across the state and access our state’s world-class recreational opportunities,” said Harry Dale, Rocky Mountain Rail Authority Chairman. “High-speed rail is an option that some believe could be part of a comprehensive solution to Colorado’s growing transportation crisis, which is why we are conducting this critical study.”
If it determines that high-speed rail is feasible in one or both of these corridors then the corridor will be presented to the Federal Railroad Administration for potential designation as the nation’s eleventh High-Speed Rail Corridor, establishing eligibility for specially targeted federal funding. Most of the funding for the $1.5 million study was provided by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The High-Speed Rail Feasibility Study will closely collaborate with ongoing planning studies and projects in both corridors.
