School Board members told parents Tuesday night they are very confident the new Monument Academy building is on schedule and will open to students on time. There is still some question if the charter school will be loaned an additional million dollars necessary to complete the project. Parents were told the paperwork is in the process of being completed. According to Board President Michael Wong, "what we're looking for from the loan underwriter is a committment letter that says we'll be able to raise the additional money." The school will still need a "bridge loan" to keep the builders working. Wong says they are "actively and vigorously pursuing financing options - working with lenders from the area." D-38 has expressed concern about the buiding's completion date and the charter school's financial problems. Monument Academy Board members say they will work on a contingency plan in the event the money is not available.
