Suspected drunk driver crashes into car, kills 8 month old

An eight month old child is dead after a car accident at the intersection of Powers Boulevard and South Carefree. Colorado Springs Police say a man suspected of being under the influece of alcohol slammed into a car that was stopped at a red light.
Colorado Springs Police Seargent L.C. Morgan says, "A vehilce travelling south bound failed to stop as required."
The two car crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night. Witnesses say the Chevrolet pick up truck hit the Honda Civic from behind injurying the driver and passenger and killing the little girl in the backseat, who police say was properly seatbelted in a rear-facing car seat.
Police have arrested 27-year-old Levi Vankekerix, the driver of the Chevy. He's charged with two counts of felony vehicular assault, one count of felony vehicular homicide, one count of reckless driving and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Maile Gray, the Director of Drive Smart Colorado Springs says, "Unfortunately in our community, this year especially, almost all of our traffic crashes have involved some type of alcohol or something like that. That in my view is absolutely inexcusable."
This is the eleventh fatality of the year in Colorado Springs.
