The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo wants to encourage the community to stay conservation-minded through out the year. They are holding their annual Earthfest on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Lodge at MooseLake in the new Rocky Mountain Wild exhibit.

The family-friendly event teaches kids and parents how to save money and protect the planet.

There will be games, puppet shows, even a demonstration on how cook with the sun. Solar ovens use reflected sunlight to heat up and cook meals without using energy.

Zoo conservation specialist Della Garelle says the idea behind Earthfest is to promote recycling and energy conservation year round.

"Earth Day shouldn't just be one day a year and we're trying to expand it and spread out the information and community connection with the earth here at the zoo,” Garelle said.

In addition to the solar oven display, other on going demonstrations include seed planting activities and the Pledge Tree, a place for children and adults to make conservation pledges for the year.

Times and locations for other activities are as follows:

10:15 a.m.         Recycle Relay outside of the loft

10:30 a.m.         Songs with Judy Feeney by the prairie dogs

11:15 a.m.         Zoopeteers inside the loft

12:00 p.m.         Birgitta performer inside and outside the lodge
