El Paso County cuts dozens of jobs

El Paso County is laying off 22 employees and eliminating 37 vacant positions in an effort to balance its budget. Employees who are laid off will receive compensation packages.
The county projects its shortfall at $9 million; the job cuts are expected to save a half-million. The positions are being eliminated from the following departments -- Administrative Services, Department of Transportation, Development Services, Environmental Services, Facilities Management, Financial Services, Information Technologies, Justice Services, Parks and Leisure Services, and Security Services.
