The Trinidad High School Marching Band will make their way down Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC playing 'America the Beautiful' this year. They were selected to perform in the National Independence Day Parade.
For many of the students, it's the most exciting performance of their lives and an experience they'll never forget. Some have never flown in a plne before.
"They will never march in this parade again. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Band Director Mike Curro.
This 'opportunity of a lifetime' may not have been possible had it not been for the generosity of some perfect strangers. The Colorado Springs Gazette first wrote about the band being selected for the parade. Soon after the article ran, the donations started flowing in.
In all, the band got more than $10,000 in donations from Colorado Springs. The rest of the roughly $80,000 to $100,000 they needed to get to DC was donated by other communities. The band received checks from as far away as Thailand even.
