In a rather ironic twist Air Force quarterback Shaun Carney will end his college career the same way he started it.

In 2004 Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry made history when he announced that Carney, a freshman, would be his starting quarterback. He made his first career start at Falcon Stadium in the season opener that year against nationally ranked Cal. Carney was very impressive in his first game. He led the Falcons on a touchdown drive on their first possession. Air Force trailed only 21-14 at halftime before the Bears blew it open in the second half winning the game 56-14. Carney will close out his Air Force career on New Year’s Eve when the Falcons take on Cal in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth.

Carney told New First reporter Jordan Mason, “ I'm really glad we get another shot at them. They went out and they beat us pretty good my freshman year. I'm really looking forward to getting revenge on them to be honest with you."

Carney and the Falcons will be honored at a special football prep rally Friday at noon at the PalmerCenter in front of the Antlers Hilton in downtown Colorado Springs. Carney will be there along with head coach Troy Calhoun and all the Falcons captains.  You're invited to cheer on the bowl bound Falcons.
