we've told you about the Mendoza family. Cesar was injured in Iraq. Shortly after coming home, his wife was in a motorcycle accident that left paralyzed from the neck down. Help for the family has been pouring in for the family. Tonight there is a new chapter, and it stars a 10 year old boy.
You can hear his faint voice in the crowd. Michael Barker the third is asking for help. His stand is set up at the Phil Long Expo Center for the Home and Garden show. He wants to raise money for the Mendoza family. This cause is stopping people in their tracks.
Cesar Mendoza is a disabled Iraq war veteran. Shortly after returning home from war, his wife, Beatriz, was in a motorcycle accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. Donations helped make their home wheelchair accessible, but they still don't have a car. Cesar says, "She can not get into any car, except an equipped van for a wheelchair."
That van will cost around $24,000, but Michael isn't too concerned with the math. He says, "I'm not going to stop until I can hand the van keys to them." Mendoza is just learning what Michael is doing. He says, "This kid is amazing." "There's this kid doing something for somebody he doesn't know.", says Cesar.
It's hard to believe a little boy could make such a big difference. That is what Michael is hoping to do this weekend. He will be at the Home and Garden show through Sunday raising money for the Mendozas.
