Dietitians have found new inspiration for heart healthy ways of eating by studying the lifestyles cultures of that border the Mediterranean Seas. Martha Rosenau, registered dietician with peak Nutrition says the Mediterranean Diet consists of whole grains, fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, olive oil and fish.
Rosenau says in countries such as Greece, Southern Italy and France, parts of Spain and Northern Africa, there is much less heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and diabetes.
Here's a hummus recipe made from ingredients approved for the Mediterranean Diet.
