Big cars will soon mean a big tax bill for car owners in China.
Starting Sept. 1, Beijing will raise the taxes on big cars while reducing the taxes on small cars. Drivers who own cars with engines bigger than four liters will have to pay twice the existing tax rate. The Chinese government wants to nudge drivers toward smaller cars to save energy and cut down on pollution.
