When it comes to whether your baby will be a boy or a girl, the answer might lie in what you eat.

What are little girls made of , sugar and spice and everything nice right?  How about little boys, snakes and snails and puppy dog tails, right?  Well it might actually be more like bananas and cereal.

At least that's what this latest bit of research is telling us.  That what a mother eats before she gets pregnant could have a big factor in what sex her baby will be.

For millennia we've tried to find ways to influence the sex of a child.  Couples have tried everything from timing sex to certain times before or after ovulation to having it around certain phases of the moon or making sure the man wears his socks during lovemaking.

But researchers wanted to take this one step further and see if a women's diet could influence whether she had a boy or a girl.  The theory here is that although a man's sperm determines the sex of the child, a women's body, depending on what she ate, could influence one type of sperm over another.

So they asked 700 women who were pregnant but didn't know what type of baby they were having to fill out a questionnaire about what they ate before they became pregnant.  It turns out that those having boys later on ate a bowl of cereal every morning, and those not having boys only had one bowl a week.  Plus, those having boys also had 300 milligrams more of potassium in there diet, and bananas are one food rich in this chemical.

But the researchers caution that this study proves nothing, but does point to some interesting eating habits and the sex of a new baby.
