Dogs are prone to cataracts, just like humans.
Unfortunately, surgery is the only option for canine cataracts.
The surgery and equipment are the same as what's used on people with cataracts, but pets are put to sleep.
"The recovery is pretty straight forward, it's not a painful procedure, clients doing two or three eye drops maybe two or three times a day for the first week or so and maybe some oral medications," explained veterinarian Dr. Jennifer Welser.
There are risks, and the cost for both eyes is $5,000.
That's certainly worth it to some pet owners.
"The dog's part of your family and you know, you just have to take care of him as best as you can," said dog owner Joe Romeo.
