Pound puppy saves family from fire

Shelby is a new addition to the Benson family. She may be a far cry from a show dog, but she's more valuable than any grand champion to her family.
Shelby saved her family from a fire. Louise Benson works the graveyard shift. Early in the morning, she headed to bed. "About 10:00 she came in and nudged me...I'm a deep sleeper, always have been."
Louise went back to sleep. "And she nudged me again...I sat up, looked in here and saw the box fan burning. It was on fire."
She grabbed the burning fan, badly burning her hand. Louise started yelling. Her son, Russell, came to her rescue. "I grabbed the blanket. With the blanket I grabbed it and covered the fan and forced it out."
Shelby the pound puppy earned her keep for years to come. "If she hadn't of done what she did, we wouldn't be here," said Louise.
