A popular Chicago tourist attraction is going dry until next year.
The Buckingham Fountain has been a fixture in Chicago since 1927. It will be turned off Wednesday for a $25 million renovation. In its 81-year history, the fountain has never had its plumbing replaced. In addition to the fountain renovation, pathways and landscaping around the fountain will also be rehabilitated.
The project is expected to be completed by April of next year when members of the International Olympic Committee are scheduled to visit. The Windy City is one of four contenders competing for the 2016 Olympic summer games.
