Foreclosure stigma haunts would-be renters
Some landlords are turning away rental applicants with mortgage baggage. A study last year by Colorado-based First Advantage found applicants with a foreclosure had more than four times as many lines of credit over 90 days delinquent compared to applicants without a foreclosure. They also had three times more open or closed unpaid credit lines.

The suspect got power of attorney to help the widow with her affairs after her husband died in 2001. Investigators say she opened credit card accounts and refinanced the house to pay them off. Police say the expenses included trips to Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
Existing home sales rose in May
Sales of existing homes edged up slightly in May, although median home prices continued to fall. The National Association of Realtors reported that sales of existing single-family homes and condominiums rose by 2 percent to 4.99 million units last month.
California sues Countrywide mortgage
Countrywide is accused of using misleading advertising and other unfair business practices to trick borrowers into taking on risky home loans they did not fully understand, in a lawsuit filed Wednesday by the California attorney general's office.
