Lee Douglas
Sports Director, Sports Anchor - 5, 6, and 10pm
Contact

Started at News First:  I've done two stints at KOAA - first from 1979-85.  I filled in on the anchor desk from 1989-96.  I returned full-time in 1996 as weekend sports anchor, became the weeknight sports anchor in 1999, and was named Sports Director in 2000.

Hometown:  Pueblo, Colorado

Previous Stations:  KDZA, KRTY and KFEL radio

Education:  Bachelor of Science, Mass Communication, University of Southern Colorado (now called CSU-Pueblo)

Industry Awards:

Numerous Colorado Broadcasters Association and Associated Press awards for our "Dream Starts Here" Olympic series

Inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Association Hall of Fame in 2005 (only the second broadcaster ever inducted - the first was KOAA's original sports anchor Ross Beatty)

Souther Colorado Best Sportscaster, 2006, voted on by readers of the Pueblo Chieftain

Named Best Sportscaster by teh Gazette twice (I can't remember which years)

Named Best sportscaster by the readers of the Pueblo Business Journal, 2001-04

Colorado High School Athletic Directors Outstanding Media Coverage Award, 2004

Outstanding Alumni Award from the CSU-Pueblo Communications Department

There are others, but these are some of the best.

Personal Interests:  Obviously, I'm a huge sports fan.  I'm also quite a music fan.  I like Elvis, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and Jimmy Buffett, among others.  I like to play golf and poker with my buddiees and I always enjoy a good movie.  I'm active in our community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club/Girls Inc. of Pueblo County for more than 10 years and as a volunteer for the Fisher DeBerry Foundation.

Interesting Facts:

I'm the color commentator for Air Force football games on the Air Force radio network.  I've been doing that since 2004 along side play-by-play announcer Jim Arthur.

For many years, I did two weekend oldies shows on KDZA-FM radio - "Sock Hop Saturday Night" from 5-9pm and "Beatles Brunch" from 10am to noon on Sundays.

In between full-time stints at KOAA-TV, I was an Assistant City Manager for the City of Pueblo.  I also worked as media and marketing director for the Colorado State Fair and taught broadcasting classes at both the University of Southern Colorado and Pueblo Community College.

Favorite Websites:  I visit www.espn.com and www.si.com more than any other sports sites.  I've also become a junkie of www.amazon.com and am spending more and more time at www.netflix.com

Narrative:

Lee Douglas has been a radio and television broadcaster in southern Colorado for more than 30 years. Lee's broadcast career began in 1973 at KFEL radio in Pueblo. He soon became a regular at Pueblo's KDZA.  Lee started his television career in 1979 as the weekend sports anchor at KOAA 5/30.  He left for a few years in 1986 but soon returned.  He was promoted to weekday sports anchor in 1999 and named Sports Director in 2000.

Over the years Lee has received numerous awards and honors.  In 2005, he was inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Association Hall of Fame.  He's only the second broadcaster ever enshrined in the Pueblo Hall.

Lee can also be heard on Air Force football radio broadcasts.  In 2004, he was named color commentator for all Falcons football games on the Air Force radio network.

Lee is a lifetime Puebloan who graduated from Centennial high school in 1973. He received his mass communications degree from the University of Southern Colorado, now CSU-Pueblo, in 1977.  Lee is also very active in the community.  He's been on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Pueblo County for more than ten years.

In addition to his vast sports knowledge, Lee is also considered somewhat of a music expert.  He loves Elvis, the Beatles, Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen.  Lee claims to have seen more than 10 Springsteen concerts!

When not anchoring the nightly sportscasts on News First, Lee enjoys a casual round of golf or a friendly game of Texas Hold'em.

Lisa, Rob, Mike, and Lee together have more than 85 years of experience covering our local news, weather and sports at the anchor desk on News First at 6pm and 10pm.
